This supermini car was launched in 1983 and built in Italy until 1995. Production of the Fiat Uno still takes place in other countries. The Fiat Uno Mark 1 was introduced in 1983 to replace the aging Fiat 127. Fiat introduced the Uno Mark 2 in 1989. Between 1983 & 1995 13 different petrol and 3 different diesel models of the Fiat Uno were in production. The Fiat Uno is quite a popular car in South Africa. It was assembled under a license by Nissan, South Africa from 1990 until 1998 and then by Fiat from 1998 up until 2006. Unos made by Nissan had the word licence underneath the Fiat badge on the rear end. Models included the Uno Fire (1100cc) as well as the Uno Pacer (1400cc). Pacer SX and Turbo. A number of special editions were produced, including the Uno Beat and Uno Rio, also featuring the 1400cc engine. Fiat re-entered South Africa in 1998, the Uno was rebadged as either the Uno Mia (1100cc) or Uno Tempo (1400cc). The Fiat Uno also featured the Fiat centenary badge from that point on. By the time initial production of the Fiat Uno ended in 2006, only the 3 door Mia was still available in the South African market. 110,000 units were produced between 1990 and 2002 in South Africa. In 2007, Fiat redesigned the Uno. The car re-entered the South African car market. It was marketed and distributed by Fiat themselves. The Uno line-up included the Uno Way, which had a higher suspension than the regular Uno and colour-coded bumpers, but based on the 1983-1990 design. The Fiat Uno has always been a popular car in South Africa, and will continue to be bought and sold in classifieds publications for years to come.
