The Suzuki Swift is a compact car. It’s based on a fresh approach to design and development and delivers a driver and passenger experience that is aimed at placing it in a class of its own, and has true worldwide appeal (according to the Suzuki website). I must admit that when I saw this car the first time I was surprised that it was made by Suzuki, who are best known for manufacturing motorcycles (in South Africa anyways). There have been various generations of this vehicle in other countries. The latest generation was introduced in 2004 at the Paris Auto Salon. The Suzuki Swift is currently being assembled at locations in Hungary, India, China and Japan. The car has been released in 3 different body styles, a 3 door hatchback, a 5 door hatchback and a 4 door sedan. There is a choice of 4 speed automatic or 5 speed manual transmission. Suzuki re-designed the latest generation as less of a low price alternative sub-compact and more of a sporty sub-compact. They aimed the Suzuki Swift’s driving characteristics and design for the European market. For this design, Indian engineers were brought to Japan to assist. Sales of the Suzuki Swift has been above forecasts in a few countries. Suzuki plans to introduce the Suzuki Swift in 2010 in the United States as a successor to the Suzuki Reno. It might be a while before one sees this vehicle being advertised in the classifieds in my home country, South Africa. The car was only released in 2008 here.
In my opinion this car could be an excellent car for a student or young working person. The car is quite fuel efficient and should be able to reach 700 km on a 43 litre tank (16 kilometres per litre). The Suzuki Swift looks stylish and I would not mind driving such a sweet looking vehicle. If you’re a person who’s looking for cars for sale, this might the car for you even though it’s made by a well-known motorcycle manufacturer. I’ve seen quite a few of this vehicles making their way into the South African traffic stream and I’m sure that they’re bound to increase over the next few years.
