So you’re looking for a 4×4 for sale but you need a little extra protection? Land Rover has released a secure version of the the Discovery 3 in South Africa. The company is familiar with vehicle armouring. Land Rover is involved in a partnership with Centigon (which claims to be the world’s largest and most experience vehicle armouring company). Centigon has been manufacturing attack-resistant versions of almost all the variations of Land Rovers available on the market. Land Rover claims that the Discovery 3 will fill a hole in the Land Rover model range and be a very affordable choice at R3.6 million (instead of paying about R6 million for an armoured version of it’s bigger cousin, the Range Rover). The vehicle is available with B6 resistance, able to withstand an assault from an AK-74 rifle (the newer version of our local favorite, the AK-47). This extra reinforcements adds a substantial amount of weight to the vehicles. This explains why Land Rover fits tuned air suspension and Alcon high-performance brakes to these vehicles. It does cost a lot of money to add armoured protection to any vehicle, so the ridiculous price tag is understandable. If you’re part of the general population and not the head of a secret society or a minister of parliament and you don’t need extreme protection whilst driving around, the armoured version of the Land Rover Discovery or Range Rover is not for you. My suggestion is that your rather look around in the classifieds to find a 2nd hand 4×4 or offroad vehicle. That’s the logical thing to do, especially when you’re buying your first 4×4.
