An American couple came up with a new marital name after dumping their own adequate surnames. They did this after brainstorming for a few days. Greet the new Mr and Mrs Ford or Chris Hodges and Jaime Case as they are more sensibly known. The Ford name was conceived after the couple spent some time road tripping around the US in a loaned Ford Fusion. Apparently the car was not the only motivation for their name change.

They’ve also given the following reasons:

  • The word “Ford” means “to cross a river” and crossing a river is a sign of strength.
  • President Gerald Ford is from Chris’ hometown.
  • The Ford Motor Company didn’t accept any bail-out money from the US Government.
  • “Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company with the idea that the common man should and would be able to afford his own car. The Ford Motor Company still works to achieve this goal today.” Maybe the fact that Ford lent them the Ford Fusion had something to do with this reason.
  • Jaime’s father was once given a Mustang.
  • Jaime’s first truck was a Ford Ranger.
  • Jaime’s grandfather, Bud, loves driving around the entire USA in his Ford Ranger.
  • Chris’s mother has an extensive history with Ford.

This is absolutely ridiculous. So let’s say I like driving around in a Fiat Uno, should I suddenly change my surname to Uno just because I like the car? It doesn’t make sense at all. Maybe I’ll do that if Fiat pays me 1 million dollars, then I’ll reconsider.

This car was the performance model of the Ford Mustang, manufactured by the American auto manufacturer between 1969 and 1978. James Bond (then played by Sean Connery) drove the Ford Mustang Mach 1 in the movie Diamonds are Forever which was released in 1971. The Ford Mustang truly is a classic car sought after worldwide by collectors and vintage car enthusiasts. The Ford Mustang was originally released by Ford to compete with the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (both manufactured by General Motors).

I have quite an admiration for American muscle cars. Theres nothing like rolling down the freeway with a powerful roaring engine under the hood. Due to its popularity amongst enthusiasts, one can probably find plenty of them advertising their vehicles or parts for them in classifieds publications around the globe.

Ford Anglia

Jul 23

This car was a British car from Ford in the UK produced between 1939 and 1968. It was related to the Ford Prefect and the later to the Ford Popular. Just over 1 million Ford Anglias were made before production ended in 1968 when the Ford Anglia was replaced by the Ford Escort. 4 generations of the car were introduced over the years. The Anglia E04A between 1939 and 1948, the Anglia E494A between 1949 and 1953, the Anglia 100E between 1953 and 1959, the Anglia 105E between 1959 and 1968 and the Super Anglia 123E between 1962 and 1967. The Ford Anglia was quite patriotically named, the car was launched just after Britain declared war on Germany in September 1939. Enthusiasts of classic cars / vintage cars need no introduction to this car, it’s quite well-known in the community.

You could probably find a Ford Anglia for sale in countries around the world in various publications and on various classifieds websites. To me, the Ford Anglia is one of the symbols of the 1950s and 1960s. A true classic. One of those cars that will always have a special place in my heart.

Like many other vehicles this one has also been around for more than 10 years. Ford is working on the 6th version of the Ford Fiesta. This model will be available in North America in 2010.

There has been 6 different versions of the Fiesta:

  • MK1 (1976 – 1983)

The Ford Fiesta is quite a popular car in South Africa. Some of the older are still around. This is one car I’m considering as my first personal vehicle. I’m bound to find vehicles like the Ford Fiesta for sale in classifieds publications.
